Trauma-informed care (TIC) and social determinants of mental health (SDOMH) are deeply intertwined, shaping individuals' well-being, access to care, and overall life outcomes. This interactive three-hour presentation explores the intersection of TIC and SDOMH, emphasizing the importance of integrating these frameworks to provide more equitable, effective, and compassionate support within the therapeutic process.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how systemic inequities—such as racism, poverty, housing instability, and healthcare access—impact trauma and healing. Through didactic learning, discussion, and reflection, practitioners and healers will learn how to apply trauma-informed principles within diverse settings while considering the broader social structures that influence health and resilience.
Workshop Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Define trauma-informed care and social determinants of mental health, recognizing their interconnected impact on mental and physical well-being.
- Analyze how systemic inequities and structural oppression shape individual and community trauma responses.
- Apply trauma-informed principles with an equity-centered lens to create more inclusive, responsive, and culturally attuned care.
- Develop strategies to advocate for policies and practices that address both trauma and the social determinants of health in clinical, organizational, and community settings.
